Hiking
Trails, switchbacks and whatever view is waiting at the top.
Hiking is how I hit reset. There's something about a trailhead that makes the rest of the week feel far away: the climb, the switchbacks, and then the moment the trees open up and the whole valley is laid out below. Around Berkeley that means the East Bay hills and regional parks, and further out, any trail that ends somewhere worth the climb.

I'll play anything with a racket and a net: tennis, badminton, table tennis, pickleball. Each one has its own rhythm, but they all reward the same things: quick feet, good anticipation and the patience to keep a rally going. Most of all, they're an easy way to turn an afternoon with friends into a friendly rivalry.
Soccer is the sport I'll always say yes to. Pickup games are my favourite way to play: no refs, mixed skill levels, and everyone chasing the same ball until it gets too dark to see it. Off the field, I'm usually catching the big matches with friends.
Swimming laps is my favourite way to clear my head. Once I'm in the water there's nothing to check and nowhere to be: just the black line, steady breathing and counting lengths. I come out feeling more relaxed than when I went in, even after a hard set.
Lifting, progressive overload and showing up even when I don't feel like it.
The gym is where I build consistency. I follow a lifting split and try to add a little weight or one more rep each week. Progress is slow, but it's measurable and it compounds. Some days it's about chasing a number; other days it's just about showing up.
Always hunting for the next great meal. Taste-testing counts as a sport.
I'm always on the hunt for the next great meal: a new ramen spot, a hole-in-the-wall dumpling shop, or a dessert worth the walk. Berkeley and the Bay Area make that easy, with nearly every cuisine within a short drive. Trying something new with friends is half the fun.
Poker and blackjack: reading the table and playing the odds.
Poker and blackjack are where probability meets psychology. In blackjack, the math tells you exactly what to do; in poker, the math is just the starting point and the rest is reading the table. I play for fun and friendly stakes. The real prize is a well-timed bluff.
Catan, Risk and Secret Hitler: trading, conquering and bluffing on game night.
Game night means Catan, Risk or Secret Hitler on the table and a long evening of trading, conquering and lying to my friends' faces. Each one rewards a different skill: negotiation in Catan, long-term strategy in Risk, and pure social deduction in Secret Hitler.

League of Legends and Valorant: climbing ranked one game at a time.
League of Legends and Valorant are my games of choice: one a strategy game about macro decisions and teamwork, the other a tactical shooter about aim, positioning and communication. I'm always working on climbing ranked, but the best nights are queueing up with friends.

Binge-reading webnovels and watching anime, one more chapter or episode at a time.
Webnovels and anime are my go-to stories: long-running series with huge worlds, power systems and plot twists I didn't see coming. I'll follow a webnovel for hundreds of chapters, binge a season of anime in a weekend, and then go looking for the next recommendation.
