Hiking
VOLUME 1 / 10
Hiking
Trails, switchbacks and whatever view is waiting at the top.
Hiking is how I hit reset. There's something about a trailhead that makes the rest of the week feel far away: the climb, the switchbacks, and then the moment the trees open up and the whole valley is laid out below. Around Berkeley that means the East Bay hills and regional parks, and further out, any trail that ends somewhere worth the climb.

Chapter 1
Why I hike
It's the one place my phone stays in my pocket. A long climb leaves room to think through a problem or not think at all, and reaching the top always feels earned. I like that every trail is a little different: the same loop looks completely new in fog, at sunset or after a rainy week.
